I don't know anything about 2 or 4, so I'm intrigued. Might get some student feedback on "To Kill a Mockingbird," as I'm sure many recall reading it in high school perhaps.
MORE STORY IDEAS...WEEK 3: 11. WSGA candidate debate as part of Mondays on Mabee on March 2. Why did it get moved to the library this year?
12. Where and how were the prizes donated for Caddystacks (this year they have Wiis)?
13. The printers at the library are getting replaced (donated by WSGA), but is it sooner than planned because the printing is free at the library?
14. Does WU ban any books (or restrict their use) like the TSCPL recently did? If so, why and what.
15. What are the newest technologies that the library is acquiring?
16. The revised library Web site is fairly new. What were the reasons for the changes? How has the student body/faculty responded to the changes? Are there new changes?
17. What are LIB guides and are they used?
18. What is the progress of the comprehensive information literacy plan to be incorporated with the general education requirements?
19. What is Apeiron and how is the library involved?
20. The Day of Transformation is coming in April, what is it?
21. How does the library work with the Curriculum Resource Center in Carnegie Hall? What is the CRC?
22. What is the electronic classroom in the library? How and who uses it?
23. What is the “Reflections on Modern Slavery” art exhibit at the Mabee all about?
24. What is the role of the tech department? How are they keeping up with the demand?
25. What does the library do during finals week? What is the response?
Great list. The next step in developing these is to add some contact ideas for each story.
Martha Imparato has long been an advocate of the Kaw because of the history it provides to WU. She said they keep track of how many times items are checked out, etc. Might be fun to look into to. Kim Morse is queen of Day of Transformation (Travis will want stories on this); two new folks on tech department;
does the library track online usage? Andrew Roland, the Review's online EIC, would be a great contact/source because of what he has done with google analytics.
one more comment. These are all WU library stories, yes? While I don't mind that being your main focus, I would like to see some coverage of the more relevant TSPL events. (ones that might be of interest to campus community.)
I did cover one TSCPL idea--if the censoring of books at the public library has affected the Mabee Library. I could expand this and look at it from the public library side, I guess.
STORY IDEAS…WEEK 1
ReplyDelete1. More about the RAP sessions--talk to some participants, find out if it is helpful.
2. CREDO reference software – who does what to get it up and running; how it will help students
3. The Big Read – was it successful? How does it tie in with the national emphasis this month?
4. The coffee cart – what is all the red tape? Why is it taking so long?
I don't know anything about 2 or 4, so I'm intrigued. Might get some student feedback on "To Kill a Mockingbird," as I'm sure many recall reading it in high school perhaps.
ReplyDeleteMORE STORY IDEAS...WEEK 2
ReplyDelete5. Compare and contrast how much the library has changed from 1906 (WR article) and today.
6. Caddy Stacks event on April 1 & 4.
7. Budget cuts and how it is affecting Mabee Library.
8. Is Mondays at Mabee working? Who does it impact and how?
9. How is the library involved with the VDay events happening on campus?
10. What does the Friends of Mabee Library (student chapter) do? How do you get involved?
I am working on the VDay events at the library on the multicultural side of it. Maybe we can work together and make a solid story.
